My name is Sierra Fish, I am 20 years old and am going into my junior year of college at Michigan State University. I am majoring in elementary education with a focus in social studies.
During the spring of 2015 I was fortunate to go on a study abroad trip to Europe. This trip was focused around education, culture, and technology. For majority of my trip I stayed in Maastricht in south Netherlands. While in Europe, the group traveled to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, Paris, and Aachen, Germany. At these locations I was able to experience new cultures and languages and at some I was able to spend time within the classroom. While in Europe I was able to teach at an international and dutch school. I was also able to learn teaching methods used by European teachers and gained experience with students with special needs and students who do not speak English. I was able to experience what it was like to not know the language or culture of another country. This will help me become a better understanding teacher and allow me to know how to help students who are new to the country.
Assignments throughout the trip included hours spent alone, inquiries on topics that interested me, and improvement of 3 global competencies that I picked at the beginning of the trip. These competences included allocating time effectively, ability to work independently, and adjusting to situations of change. My assignments were all posted on my Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sierra-Fish/1587064121528615?sk=timeline
